The “Slow-Watch” Worthy Kdrama List

I love a good binge-worthy show but sometimes it’s nice to slow down and take your time. Here is a list of my top 5 “slow-watch” worthy K-dramas.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a good binge-worthy show. But sometimes, I enjoy stretching out particular shows and taking time to reflect and think about the content of the episode before moving on to the next. I do this by watching dramas as they are released – week by week. I also do this by watching only one episode per day. Many times, these are dramas that naturally weave into your life and become part of your inner healing or growth. Here is a list of shows I enjoyed taking my time with:

Hometown Cha Cha Cha

This seaside/countryside drama added such a cozy atmosphere to my life as I watched it week by week as it was released. There is a “slow-living” theme throughout the drama that is healing and added to the experience of watching it over the 2 months it was airing. It allowed me to dissect those themes and incorporate what I was learning and thinking about into my own life.

Something in the Rain

This drama isn’t just a story to be consumed, it is a full experience. Every scene brings you in and you are enveloped in the story. It is cozy to the max and I think it is best experienced when you stretch it out a little bit.

Admittedly, I think this is the longest time I have ever taken to watch a drama and it is one of my favourite of all time. I loved the slice-of-life feel it had throughout each episode and how cozy and comforting it was even when characters were going through a hard time. It had an underlying tone of “it all works out in the end” and I think it was the perfect drama to watch over a long period of time because of this.

The Matchmakers

I have a theory this drama is not meant to be binged. For me, the charm of this drama is in the details. The facial expressions and micro facial expressions, the cinematography, the one-liners, and the random inserts of commentary within the script, not to mention the genius opening commentary from each character at the beginning of the episodes. These details make this drama special and are easily missed when binging the episodes.

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay

This is another one I watched week by week as it was coming out. I think this could make a fantastic binge-worthy drama. There are also some amazing (and sometimes heavy/deep) themes and concepts in this drama that make it worth the slow watch. Some things I thought about during this drama included my own mental health and growing pains, how our society treats neurodivergent people, and how imperfect we all really are and how to be okay with that.

[…] It is also one of the reasons why it makes this kdrama so cozy. Hometown Cha Cha Cha is added to my List of “Slow-Watch” Worthy Kdramas – a list of dramas that I think are best watched without a binge-watch sesh. I recommend […]
