Kdrama Review
Kdrama (movie) Review: Little Forest
A warm hug in movie form.
I’m going to start this review off with a very bold statement: this might be my favourite movie of all time. There, I said it and I truly mean it. When I feel lost or unsure of myself I always find myself watching this movie again. This Ghibli-like film brings in that “slice of life” theme and leaves you all wrapped up in coziness. If we are going to talk about cozy pieces of entertainment- this is cozy to the MAX!
The main character returns to her childhood home after becoming severely burnt out from her life in the city. She makes her way back to her countryside hometown where mysteries about her mother’s whereabouts fill her thoughts. As she reconciles with her past, she begins to connect to her younger self and the memories of her mother through cooking and gardening. And I will say – this one is for the foodies. These cooking scenes will keep you warm all winter long.
With a brilliant storyline like this, it is hard to go wrong with this movie but undoubtedly, I think the acting and the cinematography lifted and elevated the already amazing storyline. Kim Tae Ri (also in Twenty-One, Twenty-Five) never misses. She is such a force of an actor and I am always extremely excited about her projects. The rest of the star-studded cast, Ryu Jun Yeoh (Reply 1988), Moon So Ri (Queenmaker), and Jin Ki Joo (Jin Ki Joo) were all fantastic co-stars.
The charm of this film lies in the simplicity of every piece. There are minimalistic themes in the size of the cast, in the limited number of set changes, and even in the script.
Have you seen this film before? What did you think of it? If you haven’t, it is free to watch on Tubi in the US and can be watched on other platforms elsewhere in the world.
p.s. I really NEED YOUR HELP! This film is a remake of the Japanese film of the same name (which I love and adore just as much as the Korean version). Both are based on the manga written by Daisuke Igarashi. I would love to read this but I am brand new to the manga world and I know nothing. A quick search on Google and it looks like it might be released online in English. I can only find the printed version in French, Korean, and of course Japanese. If I were to go about trying to find a certain manga such as this one, how would I do that? Is there a certain platform or website that is best to find it? I would be super grateful if someone could let me know in the comments!
